About This Collection

Back in the day, there was a special kind of grifter. One who went from small town church to small town church, singing and playing and selling records out of the back of their car. What performers today call "merch" - all in the name of not working a real job.

Because the idea was to maximize profit from these enterprises, the cover art for these artifacts ranged from zero-effort to gaudy-glam. Almost all of them are unprofessional. Many are kinda scary in the light of our modern sensibilities.

And so, as these charlatans criss-crossed the country (mostly in the southeast) they left behind a legacy of awful album covers. Every thrift store in the south (where I am) will have at least three or four of these - some larger stores will have dozens. There was no legacy with these records. The faithful bought them at service, many had them autographed, then they went into the family music stacks and never saw the light of day again.

Until I found them, photographed them, and put them here.

I hope you enjoy!
